The standards of the PCA uphold a biblical view of sexuality.  Men and women are created equal in value but different by nature.  The only place for sexual relations is between a man and a woman within the covenant of marriage.  It is unnatural to engage in or desire sexual relations outside of God’s design.

We focused in on Westminster Larger Catechism 137-139 on Sunday and looked at the way the catechism sums up the creation design and biblical teachings on sexuality using the commandment, “thou shalt not commit adultery.” To hold office within the PCA requires a vow to uphold these standards.

One of the benefits of studying the standards is that you see that the temptation to pervert God’s intentions for the sexuality of his creatures is not new.  We have to continually renew our commitment to God’s design. Another benefit is that WLC 138 lists the positive ways that we can live out God’s design for life while 139 list the ways to avoid sexual death by ignoring God’s commands.
